Settled in.

Serena watched the pack of wolves as they settled into their new home.

Serena watched the she-wolf come closer and stood up to meet her.

Serena gave the she wolf a nod in response to her greeting. Out of the corner of her eye, she suddenly noticed a large male wolf charging towards her. She dodged his attack, snarling at him angrily.

"Peace!" Elena barked sharply. Jacob obeyed, going to lay down, bristling, just behind her on her right. "I don't need a babysitter." Elena sighed. "Stefan's going to be angry." was all Jacob growled.
"Damn right i am." Stefan snarled, appearing next to them. Now it was Elena's turn to lay down. "You just attacked a stranger for no apparent reason."
"What!" Jacob gasped. He would of continued, but Stefan ended all complaints with a growl. Then he turned towards the stranger. "Hello - sorry about that. I'm positive Elena -" he motioned towards Elena, "was only coming to say hi. Jacob is one of our most prized fighters, he is protective, that is all. Which is a good quality, but..." Stefan nodded towards her. "If you are uninjured, i am sure you can find it in your heart to forgive him."
Jacob looked at his pack leader and suddenly felt ashamed for his actions. Stefan was his best friend, and had guided him back to goodness after the wreck his father had left him in. He knew Stefan didn't like telling him off, because they were friends of the same age. It was hard to wrong a pack with every one the same age as you. You just had to convince them that you were better than them.... but that wasn't what Stefan did, Jacob thought as he watched him conversing with the stranger.

Serena looked at the pack leader curiously. "It's all right. I'm sure he meant no harm."

Serena gave him a respectful nod and turned back to the she-wolf.

"Don't apologize for other people," Serena said, "Unless it's your fault they did it, or your life depends on it. That's one of the first rules about living in the wild. Otherwise, you appear to be soft to other wolves, or a coward. They'd use that as a weakness against your pack."

Serena looked at her. "I'm sorry if I offended you, but it's the truth. My previous pack was wiped out because one of our fighters made himself look soft to another wolf, and that wolf happily took what he saw as a chance."

Serena cocked her head to the side. "All right." she said, "But I can't stay long. I have business to take care of, I should be going soon."

Serena cocked her head at the other wolf. "Personal business."

Serena looked round at the large pack. A pack this size was rare these days.

"I was in the area," Serena replied, "And I noticed you getting settled in. I came to say hello."

"I'm sorry for the intrusion." Serena said quietly, nodding her head respectfully as she turned and headed outside.
